Partial Portfolio

During my career, I’ve worked on too many documents to mention–and for some of them, I can’t really talk about them anyway.

I’ll post some links here to some of my more “publicly available” documents in case you are curious about what I’ve been working on over the last bunch of years.

Cisco IOS Dial Services Quick Configuration Guide
(Cisco IOS Release 12.1)

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_1/dial/installation/guide/121dsqcg.html

As a staff technical writer for the Small Provider Line of  Business (SPLOB),  I coordinated with a team consisting of another CCNA writer, an editor, a Subject Matter Expert (SME-CCIE), and two managers to produce this Quick Configuration Guide for the 12.1 Release. The document is provided primarily as an online assistance and education aid for those wanting to quickly set up a basic network with three types of Cisco products. A hard-copy document was also available. To see what the hard copy document looks like, click on each section header on the left side of the screen, then click on the PDF icon at the top right corner.

This document (hard-copy) won an award of Achievement from the Northern California Society for Technical Communication Technical Publications Competition.

As a staff technical writer, I was part of the development team for this software product that was a load-balancing/traffic direction application used on Storage Area Networks (SAN) to provide high-availability and reliability for critical Network Attached Storage (NAS) facilities. Starting from the initial planning meetings through the actual development, QA testing and validation, and final production, I participated in the engineering group meetings and provided input on the user interface (with regard to usability and function) and produced the final documentation suite for this product. This document is one of the set of release notes that went out with the product manual, software CDs, and other materials. Veritas has since been bought by Symantec, and this product is no longer supported.

Verilink HDM 2180 User Manual

http://www.bestdatasource.com/Verilink/data_sheets/hdm2180.pdf

As part of a documentation team, this was one of the manuals I was responsible for. In addition to working closely with the Engineering and QA/Testing groups, I verified the document’s accuracy by accessing the test laboratory and capturing the screen shots for the document from live equipment. When not writing my own assigned documents, I provided editorial assistance for the other team members and their documents. (Scroll down to the bottom of page 5 to see my name listed in the credits.)
